IELTS
Most widely accepted test for all New Zealand institutions and visas. Academic module required. Minimum Scores: Undergraduate: 6.0 overall (no band less than 5.5) Postgraduate: 6.5 overall (no band less than 6.0) Visa Requirement: Minimum 5.5 (overall and in each band)
TOEFL
Accepted by most universities. Minimum Scores: Undergraduate: 60–80 Postgraduate: 79–100 Visa Acceptance: Only TOEFL iBT scores from official test centers are accepted (home edition is not valid for visas).
Duolingo English Test
Accepted by some universities, but not accepted for visa purposes. Minimum Score: Generally 95–120 (check with specific institution). Use only for admissions where allowed; you’ll still need IELTS/PTE for the visa.
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) – C1 Advanced
